Tessellation
The process of fitting shapes so that there are no spaces in between
Contents
There are many kinds of tessellation, and many different shapes can tessellate.
Tessellation is not confined to a single shape alone. We could use many different shapes, but it will still be considered a tessellation. Certain levels have different rules for tessellation. At our age, we are not allowed to flip the shape, only rotate it.
We want to help people tessellate and understand the importance of tessellation.
Tessellation affects our everyday lives. You witness tessellation in nature (bees' honeycombs), homes (floor tiles), buildings (windows, ceilings, walls, floor). Architects, mathematicians, and designers use tessellation. Tessellation is a part of maths and geometry. There are 3 types of tessellation:
Reflection (a flip)
Rotation (a turn)
Glide-reflection (a slide and a flip)
